Leslie Stanton “Babe” Bennett

Services for Mr. Bennett will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Partlow Funeral Chapel with Bro. Wayne Jamison officiating. Interment will be in Conatser Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.

Mr. Bennett, 80, of Lebanon, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007 at Nashville VA. He was the owner of Bennett Welding, a local farmer, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a Missionary Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Octavia Bennett; brothers, Walter F. and Edgar E. Bennett; sisters, Maude E. Westber and Lois G. Lewis.

Survivors include: his wife, Birdie C. Bennett; daughters, Catherine Stubblefield, Jane Caroline (John) Chaffin, Linda (Ron) Schipansky and Donna J. Bennett; step-sons, Kevin (Lisa) Kent and Ronnie (Sarah) Kent; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services for Mr. Cummings will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Owens, Rev. Barry Ellis and Rev. Edward Parton officiating. Interment will follow in Jennings Cemetery in Statesville. Visitation will be 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Mr. Cummings, 77, of Lebanon died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at University Medical Center. He was the son of the late William Grimmett and Ruby Maye Morse Cummings. He was a lifelong farmer and was employed by Wynn’s Precision Rubber for 34 years. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

He was preceded in death by parents, two brothers, Riley (Anita) Cummings and Billy Cummings Sr.; and two brothers-in-law, Thomas Earps and Ernest Watson. Survivors include: wife of 57 years, Allie Lee Tarpley Cummings; four children, Judy (Mike) Cox of Lebanon, James (Cindy) Cummings of Smyrna, Joyce (Charles “Abe”) Reeves of Lebanon, and Joe (Maria) Cummings of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Medana Hobbs (Greg) Hemontolor, April Reeves (Wayne) Oakley, Jason (Phyllis) Hobbs, Tina Reeves, Jimmy Joe Cummings, Kim Cummings (Kevin) Sandlin, and Deborah Cox (Ronnie) Henderson; seven great-grandchildren, Evan and Grayson Hemontolor, Deshea Oakley, Ashley Hobbs, Nikki Cummings, Megan Strube, and Madison Sandlin; three sisters, Mattie Earps and Jane Watson of Lebanon and Minnie (Ronnie) Sturgeon of Dallas, Texas; three brothers, Boone (Belle) Cummings and Manuel (Faye) Cummings all of Lebanon, and Albert (Aubrey) Cummings of Madison; many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.

Pallbearers will be Eric, David and Kenneth Cummings, Carl, Daniel and Mark Earps, Ronnie Hobbs, Gary, Mitchell, Randy and Tony Tarpley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Gill, Dr. Richard Peyton, Dr. Katharine Kearney, Dr. Hardie Sorrels, Immanuel Baptist Church “Ready” Men’s Sunday School Class, Dave Gordon, Larry Squires, Employees of UMC Cancer Center, Employees and staff of University Medical Center, Odyssey Health Care Employees, Elmer Richerson, Randall Clemons, Gordon Carroll, and George Harding.

Amber Nicole Smith

Services for Miss Smith will be noon Saturday Aug. 25, at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Miss Smith, 17, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007. She was a senior at Lebanon High School. She enjoyed softball, gymnastics and being with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her uncle Jason Hearn and two grandfathers, Ronnie Presley and Samuel Smith.

Survivors include: her mother Agnie Hearn; her father, Charles Smith a brother, Dalton; grandparents, Phill (Donna) Hearn and Margaret Smith; and several aunts, uncles and many special friends.
