Haney: Online rebate sites that make sense

dfox • Dec 4, 2015 at 6:00 PM

Many stores have already begun offering fantastic discounts online, many will even include “free shipping.” I love to save money, however, I love to make money even more when I can. There are several sites on the Internet that will allow you to do just that. These sites are better referred to as “rebate sites.” Rebate sites are free sites, which will pay you to shop.

Let me explain; simply choose from the list of stores on their site you wish to shop at and you will be redirected to that store where you will make your purchase and then a percentage of what you spent will go into your own online account.

The great thing about these sites is the variety of stores you can choose from, for example, J.C. Penney’s, Ebay, Auto Zone, Kohl’s, Sears, Walgreen’s, etc. The list goes on and on. Savings can even be found for hotels, specialty stores and more. As an extra bonus on some of these sites, you will receive a $10 gift card just for signing up. The balance in your account from purchases may be requested up to four times a year.

What are some of these sites?

Here are a few of the most popular ones out there:

• Ebates.com

• Mr. Rebates.com

• UPromise.com

• Big Crumbs.com

• Pennyful.com

If you have to buy online, you might as well get paid to do it, right? On most of these sites a percentage of 1-10 percent back can be expected. Occasionally, they will offer “double rebates.” This would be the perfect time to shop. Remember, you will need to use an email to sign up.

I recommend creating one email for all of your couponing and discount. This way all of your promotional emails from these companies will deliver into your savings account and not your family or business account. Simplify your life by organizing your email in this manner.

Check out all the best deals for the holidays at dealnews.com then visit one of the above rebate sites and watch your money grow with your savings.

Here’s a cute poem to bring humor and focus to your Christmas season:

What does Christmas mean to you?

As October arrives you already begin to see

Shelves stocked with lights, and trimmings for the tree.

No doubt that Christmas is the busiest and most exciting time of year

With cookies and candies and holiday cheer.

Then December approaches and Christmas draws close

Most houses are lighted from windows to posts.

Shoppers are scurrying for that perfect gift

Before they’re all gone and the sales they have missed.

You would expect to see joy and smiles on each face

But, as Christmas gets closer now frowns have taken their place.

And whoever thought a parking spot could cause harsh words,

But, if you’ve found a close one, they’ll probably be heard.

Inside it’s not much better, down any one aisle

Most people you meet have never heard of ‘excuse me or single file.’

This brings the question of ‘what does Christmas really mean?’

Is it just decorations, baking, and gifts people bring?

It seems the true meaning of Christmas is lost

For the one we should be celebrating, who paid the greatest cost.

Giving and sharing are good things we should do,

But, don’t leave Jesus out, for He gave the greatest gift to you.

No matter what gift you get this Christmas season

It will never be as great as the gift Jesus has given.

So with each gift that you open or song that you sing

Put Him first on your list of gifts you should bring.

The gift of yourself is all that He requests,

So remember Him this season and let Him be blessed.

On Dec. 16 from noon until 1 p.m., I will present the program, “Couponing During the Holidays,” at Greenhouse Ministries in Murfreesboro.
