Pets of the Week for July 8, 2014

Staff Reports • Jul 8, 2014 at 7:00 PM

Kirby has a story that’s all too familiar. He was found wandering around, lost and scared. A kind citizen took him in and tried to find his owners but to no avail. So Kirby was brought to New Leash on Life to find his forever home. Kirby is a gorgeous and striking dog. Talk about an attention-getter. He is a 2-year-old, 35 pound, tri-colored beagle mix with soulful brown eyes.

Since beagles are notorious for following their nose and sometimes getting lost, a yard where he can run and play but with a secure fence would be ideal. Won’t you give this little guy a big chance? Kirby will be neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated prior to adoption. With an approved application, he can be your new family member for $85. New Leash on Life policy: All dogs adopted through NLOL are to be considered family pets and must sleep inside at night.

Casanova has quite a story to tell. He was found as a stray, along the side of the road, apparently hit by a car. Thanks to a caring resident, Casanova came to New Leash on Life so he could have a chance to be treated for his injuries related to being hit and to find his forever inside home. Due to the severe injury to his rear left leg it was determined that amputation was his best chance to have a full and healthy life. Being three-legged doesn’t stop Casanova – he’s active, super loving and a great cat. He lives up to his name – he is a lover.

“Cas” is about 2 1/2 years old, weighs 8.8 pounds and is a beautiful black and white Tuxedo kitty. Casanova is litter box trained, neutered, micro-chipped and current on vaccinations. Adopt this fabulous fellow for $85. Adoption Center Policy:  All cats must be indoor only and shall not be declawed.

Not sure if you’re ready to commit to adoption? Ask about our 7-day Sleepover Program for dogs and cats. If you already have your limit of four-legged family members, please consider becoming a ‘Guardian’ to help homeless pets each month. Just visit:  http://www.newleashonline.org and click on Programs, then Guardian Guild for more information.

Kirby, Casanova, and many other wonderful dogs and cats are available for adoption at New Leash on Life’s Adoption Center, located at 507 West Baddour Parkway in Lebanon. The Adoption Center is open for adoptions Tuesday through Friday, noon-5 p.m. and Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. We are closed on Sunday and Monday.

We also have dogs available for adoption every Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the PetSmart in Mt. Juliet at Providence Marketplace. Doesn’t Sweetie have a beautiful face? And she has the personality to match it, too.  Sweetie is about 2 years old - a happy, well-mannered girl - she gets along fine with other dogs and all visitors. Sweetie will chase cats so a cat-free home would be best.

She is healthy - spayed and current on shots. Sweetie came to us heartworm positive - she has been treated and needs a re-test in a few months - the rescue will cover all these expenses. But she can go to her new home now - come to meet Sweetie, you’ll see why she has that name.

Our next featured pet is a recent rescue and we are still hoping to find the dog’s owner. This is a small black dog found in the Norene area - no ID or microchip - and no one is calling Animal Control looking for this dog. We are hoping that someone is missing their pet and will contact us 615-444-8011 or call the foster Laura 615-289-0642. This is a well-cared for dog - someone must be missing their pet. Proof of ownership will be required.

Please visit our website at countryk9.petfinder.com or find us on Facebook  Country K-9 Rescue Adoptable Pets to see other available rescued pets. Our adoption fees are usually $100 for dogs and $50 for cats/kittens – all pets are fully vetted and healthy.
