The Quilts of Valor Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 2003 with the mission to provide quilts for all veterans.
Five Elmcroft residents were awarded quilts, including three who served during World War II.
“I love all of the residents here at Elmcroft,” said Amy Boggess, the facility’s activities director. “Veterans have a special place in my heart, though.”
The ceremony involved the presentation of the colors followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The quilts were then presented to each of the veterans by a Quilts of Valor representative.
The residents awarded quilts were Dorothy Ruth, who served in the Navy during World War II; Glenn Hunter and George Zeman, who both served in the Army in World War II; Bob Gholson, who served in the Army during the Korean War; and Michale McWhorter, who served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
Each of the veterans received his or her own handmade quilt, along with a certificate and an American flag.
