Schools to revisit calendar

Wilson County Schools board members still have to tweak next year's calendar.

Director of Schools Tim Setterlund said the calendar that was recently approved by the board was short a half day, and that needs to be accounted for.

Board members met in a work session Friday morning to discuss the issue as well as a few policy changes.

"We revisited the calendar for next year," said Setterlund. "The calendar the board approved was short a half day, so we discussed some options for fixing that."

Setterlund said that during initial discussions about the calendar, the board double counted a half day in September.

"They failed to realize that it's a full day for teachers," he said.

Setterlund also said he brought up the possibility of having the Wednesday before Thanksgiving off, and this will be brought up at the board's next meeting.

Other items addressed in the work session were policy changes in the instructional section, which include changing graduation requirements to accommodate the shift from block scheduling.

"We also added an opportunity for exam exceptions for students with exceptional grades and attendance," said Setterlund.

The board's next meeting will be Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. in the Central Office.
