Wilson Central High School was the grand prize winner in the State Farm Insurance Celebrate My Drive competition.
As the top school in the country in the competition, Wilson Central won a $100,000 grant and a private concert by original American Idol Kelly Clarkson.
"You did it," said Jeff Gannon of Mt. Juliet's State Farm office. "I'm excited to present Wilson Central with a check for $100,000. And, you guys will be receiving a concert with Kelly Clarkson."
Gannon presented school officials with the check during a student assembly Friday afternoon.
Wilson Central Athletic Director Chip Bevis credited the students' efforts in the contest.
"I want to thank you for your commitment to Celebrate My Drive," said Bevis. "I want to thank you for coming together, for your school spirit."
Assistant Principal Jason Franklin added, "I want to thank everyone who voted, to celebrate this accomplishment. Being No. 1 in the whole country, that's pretty unbelievable."
The date of the concert has not been determined, but it will be sometime in the spring, according to administrators.
Director of Schools Tim Setterlund said, "I want to tell you how proud I am of the unity, school spirit and being No. 1 in the nation. I am so proud."
In closing, Gannon told the students that Celebrate My Drive was about "more than $100,000."
"It's about your lives. We would give all the money up to be sure you are safe," said Gannon. "I can't wait to come back and see Kelly Clarkson at your school."
