Tim Setterlund timeline

The following is a series of events detailing Director of Schools Tim Setterlund’s tenure in Wilson County:

Dec. 2, 2012 – Former Director of Schools Mike Davis submits his letter of resignation effective June 30. 

April 27 – A list of 39 candidates is narrowed to Tim Setterlund, transition officer in the merger between Shelby County and Memphis City schools, and Donna Wright, assistant superintendent of Knox County schools. Both are interviewed. 

May 7 – The Wilson County Board of Education votes to enter into contract negotiations with Setterlund. 

May 9 – The board approves Setterlund’s contract. His annual salary is set at $165,000.

July 1 – Setterlund officially begins a three-year contract as Wilson County director of schools.  

July 24 – A new traffic plan is instituted at Lebanon High School that includes a new 7:20 a.m. start time.

Aug. 16 – Setterlund announces graduation ceremonies for Lebanon High School, Wilson Central High School and Mt. Juliet High School would be held at Nashville Municipal Auditorium beginning in 2014. 

Sept. 12 – Jill Micco’s position as special education coordinator is eliminated. 

Sept. 13 – Bill Moss' position as career and technical education coordinator is eliminated.

Oct. 22 –  Moss files a wrongful termination lawsuit, naming Setterlund and the Wilson County Board of Education as defendants. 

Nov. 21 –  Tuckers Crossroads Elementary School plays host to the first of three forums promoting a middle school format.

Nov. 21 –  Micco files a wrongful termination lawsuit against Setterlund and the board. 

Dec. 2 – The board approves Setterlund's recommendation to add three new deputy director positions.

Dec. 7 – Setterlund announces schools will change to a seven-period schedule and drop block scheduling beginning next year.

Jan. 1 – Setterlund announces he filled three new deputy director positions, two of which were filled by former colleagues from Shelby County schools where Setterlund formerly worked as transition officer. The third came from a promotion within the Central Office. 

Jan. 4 – School board and Setterlund begin discussing a six-year plan.

Jan. 6 – Moss is rehired as CTE director, but his lawsuit remains pending.

Jan. 14 – David Burton is fired as director of safety.

Jan. 16 – Wilson County Commissioner Mike Justice questions Setterlund on whether Setterlund had a beer at a local restaurant before driving his county-issued vehicle during a Budget Committee meeting. Setterlund responds, “yes.”

Jan. 19 – The board meets with attorney Mike Jennings to discuss whether Setterlund broke policy or state law regarding the driving after drinking incident. 

Jan. 22 – Setterlund retains an attorney and refuses to comment on his admitted actions. The board sets a special meeting for Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. to discuss Setterlund’s future with Wilson County schools. 

Jan. 23 – Wilson County Commissioner William Glover releases a resolution he plans to submit to the Wilson County Commission at its Jan. 27 meeting asking for a vote of no confidence regarding Setterlund. 

Jan. 24 – Setterlund and the board reach a settlement agreement with Setterlund to receive $78,000 and keep his health insurance in exchange for Setterlund agreeing to not file a lawsuit against the board. 

Jan. 25 – The board accepts the agreement in a special called meeting, but defers appointing an interim director of schools until its Feb. 3 meeting.
