Friendship Christian set to launch transitional kindergarten

Friendship Christian School is set to begin a new transitional kindergarten program for the 2014-15 school year.
According to officials, the early childhood curricula at Friendship Christian School empower students to interact, grow, and actively learn in ways that endure beyond childhood and school.
“The new transitional kindergarten curriculum has been developed to provide reinforcement of preschool skills in math, language, and phonics while helping young learners to develop greater visual perception skills, visual motor integration and auditory processing skills,” according to Kristi Chaffin, Friendship elementary principal.
She said the program is ideal for children who:
• have mastered most preschool skills, but need more time to develop socially and cognitively to be successful in a traditional kindergarten with high learning standards.
• have a birthday that does not fall on or before the state cut-off date of August 15. The modified kindergarten curriculum of the transitional kindergarten will provide “young fives” with a structured, yet non-stressful environment with enriching experience where children expand the tools they have into ones they will need for elementary school and lifelong learning.
The enriched transitional kindergarten curriculum is intended to nurture a child's cognitive, social-emotional, physical and creative development.
“We truly believe that choice matters,” said Jon Shoulders, president. “We are so excited to offer this for our young students. It is such is an exciting new chapter in their life. We invite parents to learn firsthand what a day in the life of a Friendship student is like by shadowing for a day. Walk our halls, meet our students and faculty, eat our home cooked meals and see for yourself strong minds and strong faith in action.”
