With the release of Director of Schools Tim Setterlund official as of Monday, Wilson County schools will begin the search for a new director.
Board of Education Chairman Don Weathers said Tuesday the board will meet Saturday in a work session where it will begin discussions for the appointment of an interim director to fill in while the selection process for a permanent director takes place.
"On Monday, we will appoint an interim director of schools," Weathers said. "It’s a step we absolutely have to take."
Currently, the four deputy directors are dividing up the director's duties and "doing it by committee," Weathers said.
"We've got good people in our system. They will continue to divide up the duties for the next three business days until the decision is made at our meeting Monday. I met with them all on Monday, and I'm at their disposal if they need me," Weathers said.
He said board members will discuss the selection process at the Saturday work session, and tt will take four votes from the board to confirm an interim director.
If the board chooses, the person named interim can also be considered for the permanent director position, according to Weathers. Board policy includes a provision where the board can make an exception and include an interim director's name in the pool of candidates.
"We can say we want this person to be our interim director and also as a candidate for the permanent position," Weathers said.
