Wilson Central High School student Elijah Stafford has something to be proud of, and very little company.
Stafford recently found out that he received a perfect score of 36 on the ACT. According to act.org, the average score on the test for 2013 was a 20.9. The average score in Tennessee was a 19.5.
The website actstudent.org says students scoring a 36 are in the 99th percentile of those who take the test, meaning just 1 percent of 2013 test-takers earned a perfect score.
Stafford received notice of his perfect score in September via a letter. It was his second attempt at the test - his first try was a 35.
Stafford said he "was very, very excited" when he found out about his results.
"It gives me plenty of options," he said. "I am very proud."
The senior said he will major in Chemistry and Music upon entering college. He has named Yale University, Vanderbilt University and the University of Chicago as some of the schools he is considering attending following graduation.
