Friendship Christian School Love Our Community Canned Food Drive, held last week, broke record numbers, school officials said.

Friendship students donated 1,748 food items, $25 in gift cards and $2,202.12 in cash and checks. This is significantly up from last year when they donated 1,300 food items, $85 in gift cards and $1,270.50 in cash and checks.

The Friendship National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society spearhead the project. All contributions are given to the Lebanon Special School District Family Resource Center. Through this drive, Friendship families provide 95 percent of the food, which the center is able to provide to families in need of assistance.

“We are so thrilled to be able to present these amounts to the LSSD Family Resource Center,” noted organizers.

Top fundraisers included the senior class in the high school, seventh grade in the middle school and Ashley Broomfield and Terri Rice’s classes in the elementary school.

Jackie Pitt, Jacque Pulliam, Kristi Rowe and Sarah Carter served as coordinators.
