Pending contract negotiations, Wilson County Schools will soon have a new director.
Following presentations by the top two candidates, in a special called meeting Saturday the board elected Donna Wright, the current assistant superintendent of Williamson County Schools. Board Chair Don Weathers said contact negotiations could begin Monday or Tuesday.
"Thank you very, very much," Wright said following the announcement. "I'm looking forward to it."
Weathers also offered thanks to Clint Satterfield, the current director of Trousdale County Schools, for his willingness to participate in the process.
Your presentation was very well received…we appreciate the time you put in to that process. It came with a lot of heart and a lot of passion.
"We hope you don't feel like this is a slight, because it certainly isn't."
Satterfield said "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed, you have a fine school district. I wish you the best."
Weathers said he was excited to wrap up the selection process and prepare to move forward for next school year.
"We had two excellent presentations. It was tough on the decision makers. Mrs. Wright certainly has an abundance of experience and capabilities in larger school systems."
If a contract is negotiated successfully, Wright will be announced as the new director of schools at the June Board of Education meeting.
