The Lebanon Special School District Board of Education approved several items at its Tuesday meeting.
One item up for approval was a differentiated pay plan for the district. A state law passed in 2007 required all school districts to adopt a differentiated pay plan. Director of Schools Scott Benson said LSSD formed a committee of teachers and principals from each of its schools to discuss details for the plan.
“We had several meetings here at the Central Office,” said Benson. “The committee chose to pay teachers for additional duties. One thing that rang out loud throughout the meetings was, we as a system rank high as far as salaries go. We know how important teacher moral is, and we want to keep it high.”
The plan has been approved by the state, and the board approved the plan unanimously.
The board also voted unanimously to enter into a contract with GCA Services Group for custodial services. According to Benson, the initial contract will be for four years.
A new fee was voted in for the upcoming school year at the Tuesday meeting as well. Benson recommended to the board a $30 technology fee for the use of laptops provided by the school system.
“School fees have not changed for many years,” Benson said. “This is a $30 usage fee for families that receive a laptop. They will have it 24/7 throughout the school year and can use it for their needs.”
Other items approved by the board included budget amendments for 2013-14; the federal programs budget for 2014-15; adding electronic cigarettes to the board’s policy on tobacco-free schools; adoption of the look-back measurement under the Affordable Care Act; and requesting bids for furniture for the addition at Winfree Bryant Middle School.
