Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews plan to shift traffic on Interstate 40 eastbound under Mt. Juliet Road for a second time. Crews have tentatively scheduled to start work tonight and it could take several days to completely shift traffic.
The traffic shift will involve splitting only eastbound traffic around the current work zone at Mt. Juliet Road. Two eastbound lanes of I-40 will move to the right of the work zone and one lane will move to the left.
The new traffic pattern will be in effect for about a week. Traffic will then be returned to a normal pattern with all three lanes to the right of construction. This traffic shift is needed to allow contract crews to widen and lower the road so large vehicles will have the necessary clearance when going under Mt. Juliet Road. TDOT will use its message board signs to alert motorists of the new traffic pattern. TDOT also asks drivers to use caution, reduce their speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in work zones across the state.
