UPDATE: Grass fire under control near I-40

Lebanon firefighters tamed a wild a grass fire and re-opened a westbound lane on Interstate 40 on Saturday morning. 

Assistant fire Chief Jason Baird said firefighters were putting out hot spots, but the fire was under control as of 8:15 a.m. 

The fire broke out just before 7 a.m. between the 235 and 236 mile markers. Traffic was rerouted to the outside westbound lane. 

At 7:25 a.m., Lebanon Assistant fire Chief Jason Baird said the fire was not under control. Witnesses reported fire on the ground, in trees and covered several acres. 

The National Weather Service placed Wilson County under a fire weather advisory and upgrated it to a red flag warning Thursday to warn of the conditions in place for a potential fire, but all warnings were lifted Thursday evening.
