The defense showed its teeth throughout the game, but two big takeaways really helped the Bears’ momentum.
After the Bears drove down the field and Marcello Walton rumbled in for a 5-yard touchdown on the opening possession, the teams exchanged punts before Jeremiah Birdsong snagged an errant pass and took it 70 yards for Mt. Juliet. Robbie Brewington started off the Bears’ second quarter with a 39-yard field goal with !0:34 to go until the half. Aidan Raines added a 1-yard run with 4:47 to go.
The Green Wave took the ball into Bear territory on the opening possession of the second half before Tony Thompson scooped up a fumble and returned it across midfield. Raines would add a 17-yard score a few minutes later. Alvin Mixon scored the final points of the night with six seconds to go in the third quarter.
Mt. Juliet coach Trey Perry said, “I’m really in awe of how we played tonight, because Gallatin is a good football team.”
The Bears, who have outscored their opponents 165-0, will play county rival Wilson Central next Friday.
“I expect them to play their best football game,” Perry said.
