Williams is tied with Lindsey Wilson’s Rasmus Lind and UT-Martin’s Hunter Richardson, six strokes behind John A. Logan College’s Brian Whitson, who fired rounds of 70 and 68 for a two-shot lead over Murray State’s Avery Edwards. Williams was the only Phoenix player to shoot a round at even par or better on Monday.
Senior Zach Polston posted scores of 75-79 and is tied for 40th with a two-round total of 154. The Lafayette native is just five shots from the Top 25.
Junior Garrett Daniel and freshman Reece Gaddes are tied for 49th overall. Daniel recorded rounds of 72-84 while Gaddes collected scores of 81-75 for a two-round total of 156. Sophomore Jacob Nolen carded rounds of 85-80—165, coming in 70th after the first 36 holes.
Cumberland shot 310 as a team on the first 18 holes but came back with a team score of 300 in the second 18 on Monday, moving up two spots to eighth heading into the final round on Tuesday. UT-Martin holds the overall lead by two strokes over Murray State and seven in front of John A. Logan College.
