Governor proclaims July as Beef Month in Tennessee
Dec 15, 2015 at 3:03 PM
Gov. Bill Haslam joined Tennessee Beef Council Chairman Kristina McKee, of Lebanon, in proclaiming July as Beef Month in Tennessee recently.
“The month goes beyond just recognizing a tasty, nutritious product,” McKee said. “It’s about celebrating a way of life and a commitment to community, family and nature. Beef producers are the true stewards of the land, caring for our animals in a responsible way and making sure our operations are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. Furthermore, we take pride in the quality of beef throughout the production chain. After all, the beef we supply to stores everywhere is the same beef we feed our families. And families, by the way, are at the core of the beef industry.
McKee said about 95 percent of farms are owned by individuals, families or partnerships. Many cattle operations have been in the same family for many generations.
“Clearly, this is about a way of life as much as it a business,” McKee said. “We don’t cut corners because nature and great beef just can’t be rushed.
“So have a succulent steak or juicy burger to join us in honoring July as Beef Month. We can’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate.”
