MT. JULIET – An apparent drunk driver caused a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon, and his wheel crashed into a third car after coming off his vehicle, according to police.
Mt. Juliet police spokesperson Tyler Chandler said the incident happened at about 3:45 p.m. on Interstate 40 near the Beckwith Road interchange. Chandler said Brandon Johnson, 34, of Watertown, was driving westbound in a Cadillac Escalade when he apparently crashed into a concrete dividing barrier.
Chandler said the front wheel of the Cadillac flew off and hit a car headed eastbound on I-40. He said the Cadillac bounced off the barrier and hit another vehicle twice before running off the road and into a water retention basin off the interstate.
Two men, both 19, were headed back to college when the wheel came through the center of their Acura. A 62-year-old woman was driving the vehicle hit by the Cadillac.
Chandler said no one was seriously injured. He said Johnson was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and treated at the scene for a minor injury before he was taken to Wilson County Jail.
Johnson has a court appearance set for Nov. 18.
