MT. JULIET – Mt. Juliet police searched Friday for what they described as a "trio of serial shoplifters" they said stole more than $1,000 in merchandise from the Providence Best Buy a week prior.

According to police spokesperson Sgt. Tyler Chandler, Courtney Brown, 30, of Madison, Charlotte Hartsell, 26, of Nashville, and Robert Hartsell, 31, of Woodbury, are suspects for "theft of merchandise from Best Buy."

A Franklin police officer identified the three suspects after he stopped their vehicle Dec. 7 on a routine stop. Chandler said at that time police did not have warrants on hand, and the trio was released.

According to Chandler, surveillance video showed Brown and Charlotte Hartsell shopping at Best Buy and putting merchandise in their carts. He said the tape showed Robert Hartsell at the front of the store "where he ensured the automatic doors were open so a quick escape could be made."

Chandler said Brown "nearly trampled over a child during his escape."

"Criminals can flee out of our city, but that does not mean we stop at our city boundaries," said police Cpt. Michael Mullins. "We make every attempt to apprehend criminals who commit crimes in our community."
