MEMPHIS – Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents charged a Perry County woman Thursday following a corporate theft investigation.

On May 28, at the request of the District Attorney General Hansel McCadams, TBI agents conducted an investigation involving Janice M. Duncan, 60, of Linden.

Two businesses were victimized when Duncan apparently generated checks on both companies’ corporate accounts to pay her personal debts, TBI agents said. Duncan was employed at a local CPA firm and was responsible for both companies’ financial accounts. Since 2007, both businesses sustained a loss of about $217,375 due to Duncan’s apparent thefts, agents said.

On Tuesday, a Decatur County grand jury returned indictments on Duncan for two counts of theft of property more than $60,000 and one count of theft of property more than $1,000.

TBI agents charged Duncan, and she was booked into Decatur County jail on $50,000 bond.
