Lebanon police charged a convicted felon Sunday with possession of a handgun reported stolen in a recent pawn shop burglary.

Police Chief Scott Bowen said officers responded to a domestic assault call at about 12:40 p.m. and stopped a vehicle matching a description of one that had just left the scene of the apparent assault.

Bowen said officers were advised the vehicle’s driver, Lequintus D’wan Neal, 23, of Lebanon, was in possession of a handgun. He said after officers stopped the vehicle on Tennessee Boulevard, Neal ran on foot across S. Cumberland Street, where he was taken into custody by two other officers.

According to Bowen, Neal was in possession of a handgun reported stolen in a burglary at Lebanon Pawn & Gun.

“We are investigating the suspect’s connection with the gun and the gun with the burglary at the pawn shop,” Bowen said. “The burglary is still under investigation.”

He said officers also found Neal had a substance believed to be cocaine, prescription pills and a digital scale.

Police charged Neal with unlawful carry and possession of a weapon, possession of schedule II drugs with intent for resale, possession of schedule IV drugs with intent for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia and evading arrest.

Neal was taken to Wilson County Jail, where he was released about five hours later on $12,500 bond. A court date was set for April 2.
