Jail employee charged in TBI rape investigation

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents charged a Maury County Jail employee on rape charges.

On Sunday, at the request District Attorney General Mike Bottoms, agents began investigating James Ray Pitt Jr., an employee of the Maury County Jail.

After his arrest Monday night, the 36-year-old was formally charged with four counts of rape. He will next appear in court Wednesday in Maury County.

The investigation into Pitt continues, with the assistance of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services and the Maury County Sheriff’s Department. Pitt is currently held in the Giles County Jail on a $400,000 bond.
