Sheriff’s lieutenant charged in TBI rape case

KNOXVILLE – Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents arrested a lieutenant with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office in connection to a rape investigation.

On Tuesday afternoon, a Knox County grand jury indicted Dennis Mills Jr., on a set of criminal counts, including rape of a child, statutory rape by an authority figure and incest. Authorities arrested him without incident Tuesday evening.

TBI agents started investigating the 43-year-old Powell resident March 4 at the request of District Attorney General Randy Nichols. His office, along with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, assisted in the investigation. Earlier, Mills was placed on administrative leave without pay.

Mills was held Tuesday evening in the Knox County Sheriff’s Detention Facility on $250,000 bond.
