Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan said late Thursday morning two warrants were issued for a grandfather accused of fatally shooting his grandson and wounding his grandson’s girlfriend Wednesday night.
According to Bryan, the incident happened at about 8 p.m. at 3330 Chicken Road near the intersection with Tater Peeler Road.
Bryan said two warrants for criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide were issued for James Frances Hoover, 77, who lived at the home. He said Frances Hoover suffered a hatchet wound to the head and remained Thursday in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Bryan said James Chase Hoover, 31, who lived at the home, was fatally shot. His body was sent to state forensics in Nashville for autopsy.
Bryan said Crystal Colyer, 31, who also lived at the home and was an acquaintance of Chase Hoover’s, suffered a single gunshot wound to the lower part of her body. He said she was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she remained Thursday morning in stable condition.
Bryan said shots were fired in an initial altercation, and a second altercation ensued.
“We were at the scene all night long processing the scene,” Bryan said. “A lot of evidence was processed and gathered, and it [was] used to determine charges.”
