A Wilson County grand jury returned an indictment Tuesday on a Lebanon man, charging him with possession of thousands of images of child pornography, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents said.
John Robert Watkins, 30, was charged with a single count of sexual exploitation of a minor following a TBI investigation.
District Attorney Tommy Thompson requested TBI agents open an investigation involving Watkins on March 14, 2013. During the investigation, agents said they developed information Watkins was in possession of more than 7,500 digital images and six videos that depicted children engaged in sexual activity.
TBI investigators said they retrieved the images from a storage unit and computer equipment that belonged to Watkins.
Agents also said Watkins later gave a statement to them admitting to collecting and distributing the images and videos from 2000-2013.
Watkins turned himself in Tuesday at the Wilson County Jail, where he remained on $550,000 bond. A court date was set for Aug. 28.
Agents said the investigation remained open, and more charges were possible.
