A Lebanon man charged with rape of a child under 13 years old appeared in a Wilson County courtroom Tuesday where a motions hearing was scheduled.

Robert Henry Hicks Jr., 61, was arrested April 17 and charged following a Wilson County grand jury indictment. According to court records, the alleged incident happened a month prior.

On Tuesday, Judge David Durham set a motions hearing for Sept. 8 in the case.

Lebanon police investigated the case, and all findings were turned over to the district attorney’s office, according to Chief Scott Bowen.

“After an investigation, he has been charged,” Bowen said at the time.

Following his arrest, Hicks was held on $50,000 bond and remained in Wilson County Jail until he was released June 4.

Hicks appeared in an arraignment hearing May 15, where he pleaded not guilty.

Bowen would not release the police report in April. According to state law, because the state Department of Child Protective Services was involved and due to the age of the victim, the police report on the case was deemed confidential and not available for inspection under state open records law.
