Wounded Warriors High Five to make stop in Wilson County

Staff Reports • May 24, 2014 at 7:00 PM

The 2014 Wounded Warriors High Five Tour will roll through Nashville on June 13 from 5-7 p.m. The tour’s ride of choice, a customized Stars and Stripes-wrapped 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, will be stopping at Two Rivers Ford, where supporters can sign the car with a message of gratitude and contribute to the cause of building two “smart homes” for two U.S. military veterans and their families.

The mission of Wounded Warriors Family Support and their High Five Tour is to raise the funds necessary to build to “smart homes” that will greatly improve the lives of Staff Sgt. Jason Ross and Capt. Anthony Simone, both veterans of Afghanistan, as well as their respective families.

Ross lost both of his legs in March 2011, while Simone suffered severe head trauma and burns after his helicopter was shot down in June 2010.

Ross currently lives with his wife, Cpl. Bridgette Ross, and their two daughters in San Diego, Calif. Simone lives in Joliet, Ill., with his wife, Andrea, and their two children.

These “smart homes” offer a number of features—including home security, HVAC, and accessibility and mobility devices—all designed to improve the veterans’ everyday quality of life and instill in them a renewed sense of independence. The goal of this year’s Wounded Warrior High Five Tour is to raise $1 million to make Ross and Simone’s dreams a reality, and the contributions of the public will be vital in reaching this goal. All contributions will go toward construction.

“This will be the High Five tour’s third stop here at the dealership, and the feeling of pride we have each time it rolls on the lot never ceases to amaze me,” said Joel Hawley with Two Rivers Ford. “We are very proud and, at the same time, humbled to be chosen to be part of such a great event.”

During the 2014 Wounded Warriors High Five Tour, the custom 2014 Mustang Shelby GT500 will visit more than 65 cities in 48 states, covering more than 27,000 miles of road.
