A local family is honoring the memory of their loved one by aiming to help others Saturday during the second annual Rock and Ride 4 Dana.

Dana Hale passed away Sept. 13, 2012, just a few days prior to the inaugural benefit. The event continued as planned despite her passing to honor of her.

Dana's husband, Kevin Hale said he is friends with the lead singer of the band SuckerPunch, and the two discussed holding a concert to help Dana get out of the house.

"It mushroomed from what was supposed to be a two-hour show into an all-day event," Kevin said. "It's just grown. It gives me and my children the ability to do something for the community, to honor their mama and keep her name alive in memory."

Kevin also said that Dana was so grateful for the support that she wanted to continue to have the events to help other families.

This year's event will be held at AJ's Bar and Grill Saturday, beginning with the motorcycle ride. Rider check-in begins at 10 a.m., and kickstands go up at 11:15 a.m. Following the ride, an auction and live music will begin.

SuckerPunch will headline the entertainment and will be joined by other special guests.

"Dana wanted to be able to help local families," Kevin said. "So they said let's do it and let's do it every year."

He said 100 percent of the proceeds will be used to help families in need in Wilson and surrounding counties. Money raised will be used to provide Items such as gas cards and cards to help with pharmacy copays for people in need.

"When you go something like this you see the expenses, and how hard it is on other families," Kevin said.
