The 10th annual Sherry’s Run 5K is set to take place Saturday with thousands of supporters registered to participate.
Officially, 3,100 participants have signed up, which includes more than 120 teams that would join the 5K run/walk event, making Sherry’s Run one of Wilson County’s largest community events.
The event is set to take place Saturday at 8 a.m. with participants arriving at the event site at 623 West Main Street at 6:30 a.m.
Sherry’s Run is a family oriented event, with some choosing to run the 5K as competition and others walking the course with friends and family. Live and silent auctions, as well as educational exhibits will surround the event.
The mission of Sherry’s Run is to benefit those affected by cancer and is meant to help any family in Wilson County or surrounding communities that is affected by any type of cancer. Sherry’s Run looks to decrease cancer through prevention, education and early detection screenings.
Funds raised from the event help to provide assistance to cancer patients every week of the year by contributing to things such as gas, groceries, utility bills, housing payments, prescription assistance, health insurance premiums, medical bills and colonoscopy assistance.
Sherry’s Run will also be distributing free Fecal Immunochemcial Tests, which are colorectal screening test kits to screen for the disease. This way, Sherry’s Run would offer every individual an opportunity to be screened for colorectal cancer.
