The Middle Tennessee Council, Boy Scouts of America is planning a staff reunion for those who worked at the summer scout camp at Boxwell Reservation.

According to volunteer and Boxwell Staff Reunion Chairman Grady Eades, this year is the 55th anniversary of the camp located in Wilson County on Old Hickory Lake at its location off of Highway 109. It is also the 95th anniversary since Boxwell’s inception at a previous location, which was first established as a scout camp in 1920.

“We’re celebrating two milestones,” Eades said. “It will be 55 years of Boxwell at its present location at Old Hickory Lake, but there’s been a Boxwell scout camp since 1920, it’s just moved some times. But it will be 95 years as a whole.”

Eades said the reunion is not only meant for those who worked at the Old Hickory Boxwell site, but for any of the previous Boxwell sites.

“We’re trying to track down as many former staff members as we can who worked at Boxwell and it can be at any of the other camps, just any staff members from the previous 95 years to the present day,” Eades said. “We want to track them all down for this big reunion we’re having.”

The reunion is set to be July 5 at the Boxwell Reservation.

“We hope to have a good show out,” Eades said.

He said they also plan to try to get corporate sponsors to help fund the event.

“In addition to reconnecting to old friends and colleagues, attendees at the reunion will receive a free t-shirt and a free patch,” Eades said. “The event will conclude with a free steak dinner and campfire program.”

Eades said this is the fifth reunion that Boxwell has had after the first was put on by a determined group of volunteers in 1983. He said there have also been reunions in 1989, 1999 and 2009.

“We want to try to set up reunions roughly every five years so we’re hoping to get up a good foundation this time with this reunion so we’re not having to reinvent the wheel every five years,” Eades said.

So far, Eades said there are around 2600 staff members that have worked at Boxwell, but they have only been able to get in touch with and confirm the addresses of about 280.

The deadline for all address collection is Friday.

Eades said anyone who is a former Boxwell staff member is encouraged to submit their address as soon as possible.
