The Wilson County Civic League will hold its annual banquet at Cumberland University April 12.
This year will be a celebration of the 30th anniversary of Wilson County Civic League's establishment.
The event is the civic league's main fundraiser and will be held in Baird Chapel at 6 p.m.
"Following the tradition of the pearl as the gift for the 30th anniversary, the theme will be 'Facing Social Challenges by Developing Pearls,'" said one of the event's organizers, Marilyn Bryant. "With the oyster representing the community, the challenges for progress in our society---housing, education, healthcare, employment and economic success---represent the irritants that must be overcome to create the pearl of a healthy society.
"We are looking to improve and grow our programs. Our speaker is quite involved in the growth and enrichment of the community as a whole too," said Bryant.
The guest speaker for the event will be Patricia Parrish Stokes, president and CEO of the Urban League of Middle Tennessee.
Stokes has worked for most of her professional career in the non-profit sector. Her work has focused on community capacity building, education, health and human services. Since 2008, Stokes has served as president and CEO of the Urban League of Middle Tennessee in the greater Nashville area. The Middle Tennessee affiliate serves as the lead affiliate on the National Urban League's Equity and Excellence Initiative, which is funded by the Gates Foundation.
The banquet will feature musical entertainment, a silent auction and a raffle. Tickets are $30. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
Information for sponsor participation and tickets is available by contacting the Wilson County Civic League at 615-449-0719.
