A Saturday event is set to honor the life and legacy of Andre Logue, the victim of a fatal shooting last August.

The Andre D. Logue Scholarship and Fun Day will be 3-6 p.m., at the corner of W. Adams Street and Hobbs Avenue behind Second Baptist Church.

The event will feature food, games, bounce houses, an appearance from Mayor Craighead and a scholarship to be given away in Logue’s honor. His family said Logue always stressed the importance of education.

“Andre truly believed a mind was a terrible thing to waste. He was all about education,” said Bennessa Logue, Andre’s mother. “If he was here today, he would be all about focusing on getting an education and making yourself better.”

“My brother was the true definition of what a man is supposed to be; a hardworking, goal-oriented individual,” said Justin Logue, a brother of Andre. Logue graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2005, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

His family hopes the event will serve as a showcase of the great qualities Logue possessed, as well as an inspiration to the community.

“This event is a way of showing the community what type of person Andre was, not only to his family, but others in the community,” said Bennessa Logue. “We want to see more people from our community become closer together and more involved, and become role models for everyday society.”

“He was an example for his brothers, the Logue family truly misses him. His advice and knowledge will forever be in my heart,” Justin Logue said. “R.I.P. Dre.”

Logue’s mother said she wants the event to touch the youth and continue to help the youth by giving out scholarships in Logue’s memory in the future. She hopes the Andre D. Logue Scholarship and Fun Day will become an annual event.
