Mt. Juliet Police used the help of a citizen to safely find a lost child Tuesday night.

A citizen, connected to Mt. Juliet’s Nixle Alerts, spotted the missing 9-year-old child near Rutland Elementary school. Staff at Rutland Elementary then took the child into safety around 6:35 p.m. until police arrived.

Police began searching for the missing 9-year-old, who left his home at Century of Providence Apartments on Tuesday, around 6 p.m. At the same time, many reports regarding an unclothed child running through the Providence neighborhoods began to come into the Mt. Juliet’s Police & Fire Communication Center, according to Mt. Juliet Police Lt. Tyler Chandler.

Officers immediately flooded the area to search for the child, and the public was alerted through Nixle text alerts and social media.

“Thankfully, a connected-citizen received the text alert and spotted the child,” Chandler said.

Investigators are now looking into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
