Famous Footwear donated $30,000 on Wednesday to Brooks House in Lebanon. Brooks House is a transitional, non-emergency shelter that has the capacity for up to 28 women and children to receive temporary shelter. There are 10 bedrooms, shared bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room and family room. Residents are provided with meals, warmth in cold weather and a respite from the summer heat in a safe, comfortable and caring environment.

“We are in our 10th year. People said we couldn’t do it, but God said we could,” said Brooks House executive director Liz Reese.

Before his untimely death, Brooks Franklin, a reporter for The Lebanon Democrat, researched the homeless population in Wilson County and wrote several award-winning articles on the subject. These feature stories made the community aware of the size and plight of the homeless population and especially the need for temporary shelter for women and children in our local area.

“It has just been a testimony and a day of joy every day I go to the Brooks House,” Reese said.
