Dr. Lloyd D. Caudill

Former Lebanon resident, Dr. Lloyd D. Caudill, 68, passed away on Aug. 22, 2013 in Greenville, S.C. surrounded by his loving family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, in Harrodsburg, Ky. Arrangements are being made by Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.
Dr. Caudill was born on Oct. 17, 1944 in Paintsville, Ky., the eldest child of James I. and Amanda M. Caudill (nee Carty).
Upon graduating from Hazard High School in 1962, he was awarded an athletic scholarship to play football at the University of Kentucky. As a standout student-athlete, he received recognition at the state and national level. As a result, he was inducted into the Hazard High School Football Hall of Fame. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.S. in Zoology in 1967 and later received an M.D. from the University of Louisville in 1970. Dr. Caudill married his high school and college sweetheart Frances (nee Napier) of Leatherwood, Ky. in Oxford, Ohio on June 11, 1966.
Dr. Caudill was a dedicated and seasoned medical professional. He spent his first years as a doctor serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army stationed with the 18th Airborne Corp. in Fort Bragg, N.C. Building upon this experience, he entered private practice first as a General Practitioner and later as a Radiologist. Dr. Caudill built a strong reputation for putting the needs of his patients and colleagues first. As a result, he received a number of professional honors and accolades. He was named the Intern of the Year and the Chief of the Radiology Residents at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind.
He served on the Board of Trustees and as the Staff President at Naples Community Hospital in Naples, Fla., as well as the President of the Collier County Medical Society. Dr. Caudill was also a four-term Chief of Staff at the University Medical Center in Lebanon.
Dr. Caudill was a strong supporter of his community and always found time to get involved particularly in organizations focused on youth and health. He was a PAL Football Coach and served as the President of the Greater Naples Little League Softball and Baseball Associations. Dr. Caudill also served on his local Mental Health Board and Planned Parenthood Board. Most memorably, he also regularly brought smiles to the faces of many children by acting as Santa Claus for several years as various hospital and community-sponsored festivities.
Dr. Caudill loved fishing, cigars, boating, photography, woodworking, open houses, cheering on the University of Kentucky Wildcats, driving through the Appalachian Mountains and most importantly spending time his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Frances Caudill of Simpsonville, S.C; his daughter Heather Caudill of Atlanta, Ga.; his son and daughter-in-law James and Wendy Caudill of Simpsonville, South Carolina; and his daughter and son-in-law Richard and Ashley Mirillo of Forest Hills, N.Y. He is also survived by his grandchildren Hannah and Grace Caudill of Simpsonville, S.C.; brother Dr. James Caudill of Eddyville, Ky.; brother and sister-in-law Dr. William and Terri Caudill of Lexington, Ky.; and sister and brother-in-law David and Bobbie Jean Hardin of Shelbyville, Ky.
He will also be fondly remembered by a number of loving nieces and nephews who recall him as a frequent prankster and champion hugger.
Dr. Caudill was preceded in death by his parents James and Amanda Caudill, his parents-in-law Felix and Georgia Napier, and his sister-in-law Lynn Caudill.
