Sewell Felix Summers Sr.

Funeral service for Mr. Summers will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. The Rev. David Clark and Jeff Bunch will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Summers, age 94, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at Tennessee State Veterans Home. He was a native of the Big Springs Community and was the son of the late Quinton H. and Annie Pearl Todd Summers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Earline Wilson Summers, who died in 2008.

He is survived by his sons, Morris Summers, Felix Summers, Jr.; wife, Diann, of Lebanon; wife, Jean, of Murfreesboro; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Mr. Summers was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he had served as deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a longtime farmer in the Big Springs and Donnell’s Chapel community and along with his wife were owners of Summers Grocery at Donnell’s Chapel for more than 20 years. He was a Gideon, member of Herman Masonic Lodge 239 at Beech Grove and had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Buchanan High School and attended MTSU.

Active pallbearers will be J.T. and Norman Summers, Jeff Bunch, Jim Goodrich, Kenneth, Mitchell and Donnie Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Reed, Wayne Lowe, James Winsett and Bob Graeff.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Tennessee State Veterans Home for their exceptional care given to Mr. Summers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International in his memory.
