Joe Lupis

Joe Lupis (aka Papa Smurf), 59, of Culver City Calif. passed away Jan. 21, 2014 at his home in Lebanon as a result of a long battle with cancer. His family was by his side throughout this battle.

Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult things we can go through. No words can express what our family is feeling right now, and I’m sure only time will help the healing process. Knowing that Joe is no longer struggling and is at peace allows us to celebrate his life as he would have wanted it.

Joe was a hard working man that was always put others first. It was obvious to everyone around him that the most important thing in his life was his family and friends. Joe was one of those people who, from the first day you met him,  was in your life forever. There wasn’t anyone of our friends and family who didn’t know they could call on him for anything, he would give you the shirt off of his back without a second thought.

Joe was also a mechanic for most of his life and loved to work on anything with an engine, be it the Mustang he rebuilt from the ground up or the buggy he built with his bare hands for his family to enjoy in the desert. That was his passion, and he was one of the best. Joe also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, NASCAR, watching football and golfing even though he wasn’t very good at it.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Lupis; sons Joseph, Shane and Josh Lupis; daughter, Chastity Hofmann; brothers, Jim, and Bill Lupis; sisters, Carol Pinkerton, Donna Emiley and Linda Lupis; and 12 grandchildren.

At the wishes of Joe and his family, there will not be a traditional funeral service held. Family and friends are welcome to join in the celebration of Joe’s life Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. This will be held at his daughter’s house in Lebanon.

Arrangements are entrusted to Tennessee Funeral Home and Cremations Services, 2700 Larmon Ave., Nashville, TN 37204, 615-386-3725.
