Wilson County native and former commissioner Cindy Forbes Brown announced her candidacy for District 21 Wilson County commissioner.

“I was voted twice to represent the 21st District until I had to resign because I married and moved into another district,” Brown said. “I am again in the 21st District because of the redistricting process. The knowledge one gains from representing a government agency only helps the taxpayers in all the districts. I am proud to say since I have been off the commission, people still ask me to help them get things done or tell them the right person or department to contact.”

Brown taught at Castle Heights Military School and also worked at Trice Appraisals and the Wilson County assessor’s office.

“I am an honest and straight-forward person and never will I sustain from a vote,” Brown said. “The people need a yes or no vote.”

Brown said she and her siblings were raised on a farm in Wilson County. She attended Cumberland University on a tennis and basketball scholarship and went on to graduate from Middle Tennessee State University.

“My parents are Sam Forbes, of Shop Springs, who worked at Tucker’s Sausage for 40 years and the late Edna Forbes, who worked at South Central Bell for 36 years,” Brown said. “My sister, Ginny Laudeman, is a teacher at Watertown High School, and my brother, Mike Forbes, owns Lebanon Locker.

Brown is a Lebanon-Wilson County Chamber of Commerce and Tennessee Cattlemen Association member. She attends First United Methodist Church in Lebanon.

She said her hobbies include spending time with her grandchildren and farming. She also volunteers with Joseph’s Storehouse, Ike Learning Center, Christmas For All, 4-H, the Humane Society and the Veterans Affairs clothes drive in December.

Brown lives on a cattle farm with her husband, Bart. Her daughters, Brittany and Crystal, live in Knoxville.

“Please trust me with your vote in August,” she said.
