Police group endorses candidates

A group representing many of Lebanon’s law enforcement officers has weighed in on the upcoming elections.

The Lebanon Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 83, which represents more than two-thirds of Lebanon Police Department officers, recently released its list of candidate endorsements for the August elections.

“These candidates are best believed by our members to serve the needs of the community and/or region. We also believe that they will best serve the needs of public safety as a whole,” said a spokesperson for the organization.

The organization to endorse a candidate, that candidate must receive at least 60 percent of the vote of the members voting.

The organization’s members voted to endorse the following candidates:

• Brian Fuller for criminal court judge

• Barry Tatum for Division I general sessions judge

• Andy Wright for Division II general sessions judge

• John Gwin for Division III general sessions judge

• Clara Byrd for Division I circuit court judge

• John Wootten for Division II circuit court judge

• C.K. Smith for chancellor

• Robert Bryan for sheriff

• Tommy Thompson for district attorney

• Comer Donnell for public defender

• Randall Hutto for county mayor

Early voting for the election will be held from July 18 through Aug. 2, and Election Day is Aug. 7.
