Trout funding: The TVA will provide $2.7 million over the next three years to keep three national trout hatcheries open, including two in Tennessee. One of the hatcheries is in Celina and another in Erin.

Those two, along with one in Georgia, provide trout that are stocked in TVA waters, assisted by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

An official with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service estimated the three federal hatcheries account for $45 million in economic activity and called the funding “a well-deserved investment.”

The federal hatchery program is in addition to the TWRA’s trout-stocking program, which is funded in part through the sale of special trout licenses.

Trap shoot: Danny Shaw missed his first bird, then hit the next 49 straight to win the weekly trap shoot at the Cedar City Gun Club.

Ray Huchesen and Mac McCaleb tied for Veteran honors with 48.

Tyler Baker (41) won the Jr. competition and Timothy Whitelock (44) the Sub-Junior.

Free Fishing Day: The TWRA’s annual Free Fishing Day is June 8, on which no fishing license is required on public waters.

Several kids fishing events are scheduled that day, including one on Couchville Lake on Long Hunter State Park. For information about how to participate in the event call 615-889-1975.

Hunter input invited: The TWRA invites hunters to submit comments and recommendations for the 2013-14 hunting seasons.

Comments can be sent by mail to Hunting Season Comments, TWRA Wildlife Management Division, P.O. Box 40747, Nashville, Tn. 37204 or e-mailed to: twra.comment@tn.gov

Include “Hunting Season Comments” on the subject line of e-mailed submissions.

Comments and suggestions will be considered when the TWRA and the Tennessee Fish & Wildlife Commission sets this fall’s hunting and trapping regulations.
