Thurman inks with CU cross country

Cumberland cross country coach Jared Klosterboer announced the signing of Evensville native Emily Thurman to scholarship papers this week for the upcoming season.

Thurman was a five-year letterwinner in track and field and lettered four years in cross country for coach Steffan Holder at Rhea County High School in Dayton. She is the daughter of Kathy Newby and Tommy Thurman.

Thurman joins Garant Madut, Zeddy Jepkosge, Tanner Harp, Spencer Rearick and Richie Palmeiri in this year’s recruiting class.

Small, Walker add to wrestling recruiting class

Cumberland wrestling coach Todd Allen announced the signings of a pair of East Ridge products to scholarship papers this week – Kendall Small and Coby Walker – for the 2013-14 season.

Small lettered four years in wrestling for coach Brad Laxton at East Ridge High School, earning fourth place in the state duals as a senior after posting a 48-6 record. He won the JROTC Cadet Challenge two straight years and earned a Presidential Award twice as well as lettering in football four years for the Pioneers. He is the son of Walter Small.

Walker also lettered four years at ERHS for Laxton, serving as team captain as a senior. He also lettered two years in soccer for the Pioneers and is the son of Jennifer Walker.

Small and Walker join Niko Kolgaklis, JohnMark Reddick, Dakota Bromley, Dalton Baysinger, Tom Gattinella, Justis Griffith, Corey Daniels, Nate Croley, Christian Varner, Jordan McCoy, Ross Brister and Kyle Delaune in this year’s recruiting class.
