Wildcats start five-game road swing with loss

HENDERSONVILLE — Wilson Central quarterback Jordan Roundtree

threw two interceptions, one in each half, that led to Hendersonville touchdowns as the Commandos took the season opener between the District 9-AAA teams 28-14 Friday night.

"We played well for a while," Wildcat coach Brad Dedman said. "We told them that small things would win this game and we made too many mistakes with penalties and turnovers

to win."

Hendersonville opened the scoring on a short field beginning at the Wildcat

38-yard line. The drive stalled and Bryce DeGuira was called on to attempt

a 40-yard field goal. The kick was good but a roughing-the-kicker penalty gave the ball to the Commandos at the 12-yard line. Hendersonville

scored on a run by Cameron Turner and the score was 7-0.

Wilson Central struck back as Roundtree found Alex Price racing down

the seam for a 72-yard touchdown only 21 seconds after the Commandos had

scored for a 7-7 tie.

On Wilson Central's next drive Roundtree found Price again for a 40-yard gain, but the play was wiped out on a unsportsmanlike call against the Wildcats. Later in the drive, Roundtree scrambled and heaved one up that was intercepted by Braden Schwerdt.

Hendersonville took over at its own 13-yard line and went on an eight-play, 87-yard drive capped by a 40-yard toss by Jeremias Elston to Justin Orr.

Before the end of the half, the Wildcats answered on an eight-play, 80-yard

drive capped by a 4-yard run by Kaleb Butler that tied the score at 14-14.

More than halfway into the third quarter, the Commandos went in front for good

on a short plunge by Anthony Tate, the first of his two in the second half. The key play was a 56-yard run by Corey Jones.

Almost five minutes into the final stanza, Tate scored again from 24 yards out for the final margin. The score was set up by an interception by Morgan Nappier.

Wilson Central took the ball over near midfield but could not do anything offensively.

Hendersonville took over made a few first downs and capped the win with a 40-yard

run by Turner.

Wilson Central  will go to LaVergne next Friday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
