Walter J. Baird celebrated homecoming and tuned up for Thursday's showdown with crosstown rival Winfree Bryant by shutting out Westmoreland 38-0 Tuesday night.
Jajuan Foutch scored Baird's first two touchdowns - on a 72-yard punt return and a 65-yard run on the Blue Devils' first offensive play. In between, he scored on a two-point sweep. Quarterback Zach Wren tacked on the second PAT on a bootleg.
Baird kicked off deep but Westmoreland didn't cover the ball as Preston Parks raced in to recover at the Eagles' 30-yard line. Wren scored on a run up the middle on first down for a 22-0 halftime lead.
Coach Eric Lawrence began sprinkling his backups into the game in the second half.
One of them, Gallatin-transfer Tyrique Cooper, took his second carry of the game 67 yards to the house. Fullback Ryan Brown's two-point run made it 30-0.
Seventh-grade wingback Braxton Givens swept 60 yards for the final touchdown and sixth-grader Levi Sampson closed the scoring with a two-point run.
Baird will bring a 2-1 record into Thursday's Battle of the Blues with Winfree Bryant at WJB.
