LAVERGNE — Wilson Central rushed for 367 yards and scored 21 points in the fourth quarter in a 45-34 comeback win over LaVergne at Freedom Field on Friday night.

"I have to give our offensive coaches and our offensive line all of the credit," Wildcat coach Brad Dedman said

after Central squared its season record at 1-1. "We slowed them down in the second half just enough. Our plan was to run the football."

The game turned into a track meet early as LaVergne quarterback C.J. Fore threw for over 300 yards and five

scores. His first toss came early as Quan Jernighan caught a 63-yard pass from Fore to take an early 7-0 lead.

Wilson Central came right back as Alex Price took a handoff and raced through the middle 69 yards to tie

the game at 7-7 less than two and a half minutes into the contest. Price ended the night with 124 yards on the ground.

LaVergne scored two more times before the first stanza ended. The first came on a pass of 35 yards to J.J. Horner.

Wilson Central drove the ball on its next possession but the drive stalled and Brad Cavanough was called on to attempt a 42-yard field goal which he missed.

LaVergne took the ball back and drove the pigskin 80 yards in eight plays, capped by a 33-yard pass to Jernighan.

The Wildcats scored twice before the first half horn sounded. The first came on a 2-yard run by Jordan Wilson and the second was a 27-yard field goal by Cavanough that cut the deficit to 21-17 with 51 seconds left.

That much time on the clock was just enough for the LaVergne offense aided by a Wildcat penalty. The ball was placed within striking distance and Fore did the rest from 12 yards out to Horner making the halftime score

Wilson Central received the second-half kickoff and it did not take long for the 'Cats to put points on the board. It took 85 seconds and three plays as Jordan Wilson raced down the field from 54 yards out.

LaVergne started its next possession from the 20 and drove the ball inside the Wildcat 10-yard line. The Wolverines lined up for a field goal but instead went for a fake. But the pass went off the receiver's hands giving

the ball back to the Wildcats.

Early in the fourth quarter, Wilson Central grabbed the lead on an 11-yard run by D'Sean Osborne putting the Wildcats ahead 31-28.

During the final eight minutes, LaVergne fumbled the ball twice and the Wildcats pounced on the ball both times. After the second turnover, Wilson Central took advantage with great field position and scored on a sneak from quarterback Jordan Roundtree with a little less than four minutes to go to open a 38-28 lead.

LaVergne came right back as Fore threw for his fifth score of the night, a 72-yard bomb to Jernighan.

The Wolverines attempted a squib kick. Weston Rountree picked the ball up and returned it 25 yards to the Wolverine 30. The ensuing drive took three plays and was capped by a 3-yard run by Kyle Coombes for the final tally.

Wilson Central will return to District 9-AAA play at 7 p.m. next Friday at Portland, coached by former Wildcat coach Traye Aric.
