Watertown celebrates homecoming with first win

Watertown celebrated homecoming in a big way Friday with a 41-7 thumping of Red Boiling Springs.

A scoreless first quarter which was a defensive battle saw both teams go three-and-out on their first possession. The Purple Tigers had a couple miscues that stopped their momentum as well.

"We got off to a slow start," Purple Tiger Coach Gavin Webster said following his team's first victory. "Ran three plays that first series, punted, we come back, ran one play had a big run and we fumbled, had a bad snap on a punt."

The first big offensive play for Watertown came as quarterback Ty Jobe hit the sideline and sprinted 77 yards for the game's first points.

"They did a good job coming in and moving the ball on our defense and we were giving up some yardage. They converted on a third and 15 and third and 8. We did a good job overcoming that."

With 10 ticks left in the second quarter Luke Turner punched in a 3-yard score to give the hosts a 14-0 lead prior to crowning their homecoming queen.

In the third period, Jobe connected with two receivers for long range scores, the first a 40-yard pass to Dakota Self with 8:51 to go and three minutes later he tossed a 52-yard bomb to Hunter Warren.

"We come out that second half and we were clicking pretty good offensively," Webster said.

The train kept rolling for the Purple Tigers on the first play of the fourth quarter when Jobe connected with Kent Foster on a 75-yard pass play. Watertown's final score came as Seth Price hit Skylor Scales with a 26-yard pass.

Red Boiling Springs' only points came on a 4-yard run by Justin Bergdoriff with 4:02 to play.

The Purple Tigers travel to Cannon County next Friday.
