Lady Bears edged by Lipscomb 2-1

From staff reports • Dec 17, 2015 at 5:21 PM

NASHVILLE — Lipscomb Academy scored with six minutes to play Thursday night and held on to beat Mt. Juliet 2-1 in the first game of the Ladies Championship Tournament.

The Lady Mustangs broke a scoreless tie on a penalty kick seven seconds before halftime.

Nataya Wade found the net unassisted for Mt. Juliet 10 minutes into the second half.

“This was a really evenly played game,” Mt. Juliet coach Ryan Hill said after his Lady Bears fell to 5-5. “Lipscomb got a penalty kick on a questionable call right before halftime.

“We had some great scoring chances in the second half but couldn’t finish around the goal. The effort was there, we just couldn’t finish.”

Sarah Carter collected 12 saves for the Lady Bears, who will return to Lipscomb tonight to take on St. Cecilia at 7 p.m. They will wrap up pool play at 11 a.m. Saturday against Lenoir City.
