NASHVILLE — Mt. Juliet Christian’s undefeated middle school football team rolled to its seventh win Thursday night, a 26-6 victory over host Harding Academy.
The Saints racked up 258 yards of total offense, including Alex Pitman’s 120 rushing yards on 11 carries. Josh Jose finished with 51 yards on four carries, Tristin Mathis 45 on seven and Andrew Kittrell 27 on four.
Mt. Juliet Christian collected just 8 yards through the air on 1-of-10.
But the ground was good enough on a night when the Saints’ defense held Harding to just two first downs.
Dawson Perry paced the Saints with 4 ½ tackles while Noah Michael and Preston Sloan each finished with 3 ½ and Mathis and Kittrell 2 ½ each. Kittrell also collected a sack while Pitman intercepted a pair of passes, one of which he returned for a touchdown.
“We got off to a slow start tonight, but then we were able to turn it on in the second half,” Mt. Juliet Christian coach Mike Kittrell said. “Harding had our number for a bit but we were able to continue fighting and keep our poise to the end for the win.
“We have one game left and we just want to finish strong.”
Cannon County will come to Suey Field for the Saints’ Eighth-Grade Night for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff on Tuesday. It will also be MJCA’s season finale.
