GALLATIN — Lebanon suffered a 14-12 loss to the Gallatin Green Wave Friday night during the Green Wave's homecoming festivities at Calvin Short Field.

Gallatin's Jordan Mason raced 97 yards on the opening kickoff to give the Green Wave a 7-0 lead just 20 seconds in.

On Lebanon's ensuing possession, after three short yardage plays, it appeared the Blue Devils would punt. But the punt was faked and resulted in a first down run by Eddie McDaniels. The drive continued until Lebanon was in field-goal range, but Cameron Harris's kick was off the mark and Gallatin regained possession.

Taye Davis gave the Blue Devil faithful a reason to cheer just before halftime as he rumbled across the goal line for a 1-yard score. The extra point was wide, which left Gallatin with a 7-6 lead at the half.

A promising start for Lebanon's opening possession in the third quarter turned sour when on the fourth play, Davis was stripped of the ball during a run and Gallatin recovered on Lebanon's 38-yard line. Six plays later, Jordan Harper muscled in for a 4-yard score for the Green Wave's final points and a 14-6 lead.

"We shot ourselves in the foot time and time again in the kicking game, the botched extra points we continue to have, and turning the ball over," Blue Devil coach Sam Harp said after Lebanon fell to 1-6 for the season and 0-4 in District 9-AAA.

Lebanon would put up the night's final points when quarterback Christian Haffner connected with Julian Crutchfield for a 4-yard score. The two-point conversion pass fell incomplete for the game's final tally as Gallatin improved to 4-2, 2-1.

"These kids played awful hard tonight," Harp said. "I'm happy we played hard, but I'm not happy with how it finished."

Lebanon will return to Sumner County next Friday when the Blue Devils travel to Portland for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
