MADISON, Miss. — Senior Austin Garrett carded a two-under par 70, sophomore Ryan Botts shot even-par 72 and Cumberland leads in the team standings by 10 shots after the first day of competition at the Millsaps Collegiate at Deerfield Country Club.

Garrett shot one-under on both sides of the par-72, 6,900-yard Deerfield course and stands one shot off the lead of Blue Mountain’s Adam Hall. The Smithville native is seeking his second victory of the fall after taking individual medalist honors at the Bluegrass Fall Classic/Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament last month in Georgetown, Ky.

Botts was two-under on the front nine but four-over on the back and stands fourth overall, three shots off the pace. The Lebanon native won last week at the St. Catharine Fall Invitational.

Sophomore Peyton Broyles shot 39 on both sides and is tied for 15th overall at six-over par 78. Three freshmen rounded out the Bulldog contingent, with Zach Kean and Jake Dailey each shooting 87 and tied for 58th, while Ian Whittemore is tied for 63rd after carding an opening round of 90.

Tournament action will conclude today and Cumberland will finish the fall schedule in two weeks at the RedHawk Invitational in Lawrenceburg.
